How Many SDRs Do You Need to Start a Sales Development Team?

When you’re just starting, be careful with time, budget, attention to time. Two prospectors – when you do something new, start with two when you can. Two or three.

You’ll need a leader, ideally full-time manager, SDR leader, who will probably be prospecting too until there’s a system in place. If you have too many people, like 5-7 on the team, the chaos isn’t worth it. If you have an experienced, dedicated leader, the more people you can start with, the better. 

If you can only start with one person – one is great as a minimum. But it helps to have a second person to bounce things off of. You can tell if things are going well or not. If both people are failing or succeeding, it’s probably the process or situation – but if one is struggling and the other not, you know it’s the person.
